Minutes
of meeting held on Wednesday 21st May 2003
At
Bird House, Church Street, Welwyn
Present: Andy Trotter (Chair), Roger Aubrey, Ruth Brett, Trish Brown, Sheila Catlin, Arthur Jones, Barbara Primrose, Chris Thompson.
Apologies: Linda Dobbs, Shirley Guy, Phyllis Richmond,
Sandi Wood.
1. Licence: Linda has this in hand for Fun Day and Prom. (When Linda became aware of the need for a licence, she immediately actioned this.)
2. Programme: This has gone to the printers.
3. Festival week: Herts FM are already advertising Festival Week.
4. Parade: Nothing to report other than it would be nice to have a few more
participants. Sheila to contact Oaklands School and the Montessori School again. Andy to check with Fred as to whether he will be able to take part this year. (Fred will – if he is not at Sandringham Horse Trials) SC/AT
5. Fun Day: New activity – Barracuda Quad Bike and Trampoline. Red Cross to be on site. Arthritis Campaign hoping to bring a car. Jewellery lady yet to reply. Second-hand toys coming. Stuart the woodcutter coming. It was suggested that a map of Singlers Marsh and where stalls are to be allocated to be handed out on day by someone on the gate. Dog show to be advertised.

6. Picnic: Generator
needed for musical instruments of the four-piece group. Should not be a problem. Ice cream man coming. AT
7. Street market: Everything
going to plan. Clog men unable to
come. Amersham Garland Dancers
hopefully able to come to Street Market. (53 stalls booked!) PR
8. Prom: Coming together – one or two unable to make it but a few others hopefully will be able to come along in place of. Tickets have been printed.

9. Topstars:
Advertised in Welwyn Times and Welwyn Magazine. Posters already up in village and on
Festival web site. Application forms in
Danesbury Shop and Music Shop. All three
judges confirmed and Ian Drewitt to act as MC for the evening. Two prizes donated from Welwyn Music Shop
and St. Albans Music Shop. Everyone to
have a certificate who enters. Now
waiting for competitors. Winner to sing
at Prom Concert. General poster should
go up now.

10. Posters: Where
possible it was thought it would be a good idea for posters to be laminated for
future use advertising various events.
Andy suggested Dennis Spruce might be able to help and plan signage and
advertising. Banners advertising family
fun day and picnic by Singlers Marsh and placards thought to be good idea. Banners cost £4 per sq.ft. Placards £25 for large £12.50 for smaller
ones (most generally used). These could
be used time and time again.
Mather-Marshall to be asked if their boards could be a little
clearer. Codicote Road could have more
advertising. Fire Service to put up
bunting. Chris gave picnic posters to
Andy. Brians’ daughter to do poster for
Tug of War.

11. Roger Trigg to be invited to attend as Chairman of
Welwyn/Hatfield District Council to Fun Day. RB
12. Finance: Nothing to report.
13. A.O.B. Brian expressed concern about the safety on the Fulling Mill Lane Bridge at the Duck Race. Ladies Circle asked to provide Marshalls. AT
Winners of the
photographic competition to be displayed on Fun Day.
Tents and marquees
– we have what we need at the moment.
Will need large tent for beer tent.
Wine people to supply their own.
Marquee needed for picnic in case of inclement weather to house the
electrics for the group.
